Contradictions
I was attempting to tell my mom about how you can text a number and red cross will charge ten dollars to your bill to help the disaster relief in Haiti. She stopped me short and started yelling about how the American government does not want Cuba to come “swoop in and take over,” “they don’t want Cuba to get any bigger.” “I never heard hotline telephone numbers being called out when there were earthquakes in China, or when that tsunami hit.”
My mother doesn’t listen to the news frequently for one, for two she barely finished highschool and cannot turn on any electronic device. My mother cannot do complex multiplication or division (mind you this does not include unknown variables - equations - etc.) Cuba is a third world country and its most densley populated city was where the earthquake centered at a 7.0-7.5 magnitude. Over 70,000 bodies were uncovered. BODIES, the country lost a bunch of workers, and potential workers, their economy is going to blow. And I’m pretty sure the same organizations helping Haiti, like Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, etc., helped the tsunami disaster. China is prettty fucking well off, they just have a huge population. So, I think it’s pretty reasonable to help the Hatians.
At&t wireless customers can text HAITI to 90999 and Red Cross will charge $10 to your bill, standard texting rates may apply, and a confirmation message will arrive in a few minutes; reply “yes” to finalize the donation.
If you don’t believe me go to CNN.com or yahoo.com they both have links up and info about texting donations.
What does any of this have to do with Cuba? It hit the capital of Haiti not Cuba’s capital.
